A beautiful area that caters for every one. Enjoy the peaceful Algarvian hills, while the buzz of bigger towns is only a 10-minute drive away. Take a stroll on the long sandy beaches or spend some time at the villages of Olhão, Fuseta or Tavira which all offer a choice of restaurants and shops.
For those who like to hike, the hills, the amazing National Park Ria Formosa and the Barrocal area with a choice of walking routes and tracks are just ‘around the corner’. For those who would rather play golf: within a distance of 25 kilometres there are 7 public golf courses. Cas al Cubo bed and breakfast is situated only 30 kilometres from the Spanish border. The beautiful Spanish town of Sevilla can easily be reached within a 2-hour drive. The fortified historical Portuguese towns of Mertola and Alcoutim in the east also make a great day trip. They are situated on the Guadiana river that runs between Portugal and Spain. Cabo de São Vicente is the farthest western point of the Algarve, and it is a wonderful attraction for everybody to see. Don’t forget to eat your famous “last Bratwurst before the USA” here!
Whether you are looking for a relaxing beach holiday, an active golf vacation, a sporty walking holiday, the ultimate cycling trip or a historical roundtrip through southern Portugal, Cas al Cubo is an excellent starting point for any of these plans. The Algarve had many hidden treasures, we invite you to come and stay with us and let yourself be mesmerized!
Name: Cas al Cubo
Cas al Cubo is the unusual name for our home. Finding a name that suited our B&B wasn’t an easy job. After a lot of thought, we came up with a name that not only represented the house and the area, but also us as a couple. B&B Cas al Cubo it is, or as you would say in English: the cubic house.
Cas is the Basque word for house. Al refers to the Moorish history of the Algarve and Cubo is a cubicle. The name Algarve dates back to the Moorish occupation of the Iberian Peninsula when this area was called “al-Gharb al-Ândalus” (West of Andalucia). Combining the first two syllables, makes Casal. In Portuguese this is is the word for a married couple. Therefore B&B Cas al Cubo does not only refer to Portugal and its history, but also to the house itself and to us as owners.
