Beaches in the Algarve
Beaches of the Algarve are chosen the best beach destination in the world, according many the travel magazines. In the Eastern Algarve our beaches are situated for the larger part in the National Park of the Ria Formosa. The beaches are wide, outstretched and calm. Every beach-lover will find his or her favourite spot on one of our beaches. Whether you are looking for the hum of water sports, cafés and restaurants, or for just that very quiet place where you can feel alone on your private beach, it is all possible here. Even in the high season, the Eastern Algarve offers it all.
Fuzeta
The Eastern Algarvian beach of Fuzeta is the nearest to B&B Cas al Cubo. Fuzeta is a cosy fishing village that has two beaches. At the end of the harbour, a nice restaurant and cocktail bar sits straight on the beach: Borda d´Água. Due to the location within the lagoon and the lack of current, it is perfect for small children. The second and larger beach is the island beach. A regular boat service to the sand-island brings bathers to the beach. Umbrellas and sun loungers are for rent and the beach offers a small but excellent beach bar.
Armona and Culatra
Olhão itself does not have a beach. From the quay in Olhão, the ferries to Armona, Culatra and Farol offer a regular service. Two beach islands offer long stretched beaches where the crowds simply seem to disappear. Armona is a bit busier then Culatra due to the fact that it hosts a small holiday park. Culatra offers no hotel facilities and is just a home to just the families of the fishermen that have lived there for two centuries or more. The beaches are wide and a stroll from one end of the island (Culatra) to the other end (Farol) offers a nice day trip.
Praia Farol
Our absolute an undisputed favourite beach in the Algarve is Farol. This small beach offers sun loungers and an umbrella for rent in the summer. They can be booked in advance at bar MarAmais. This bar also offers cocktail service on your deck chair at the sea front. There is no better life imaginable!
Tavira
Both beaches are situated on the Ilha da Tavira, or the island of Tavira. Of the two, Ilha de Tavira offers most restaurants and entertainment, due to the fact that the island hosts a campsite in the summer months. These beaches are amazing in both summer and the colder winter months. Wide and clean and if you fancy a stroll you will find yourself virtually alone within ten minutes.
Barril
Five mile south of Tavira, Praia do Barril beach is also a very popular location. It is the only location where a beach can be reached on foot, without taking a ferry. Renowned for the small diesel train running you towards the beach, Barril is a popular place. The anchors on the dunes are a visual reminder of the tuna fishing industry that once offered the people of this area their livelihood. Praia do Barril offers services for disabled people, a choice of water sports, several restaurants and again, for the lovers of peace and quiet, a wide stretched beach that is officially appointed nude beach after about 2 miles.
Fabrica & Caçela Velha
Praia da Fabrica is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. It is the only place where you can cross the lagoon to the beach island walking at low tide. Fabirca beach does not offer any bars or restaurants, umbrellas or sun beds, hence it is a mostly quiet place, visited a lot by local beach lovers. The attraction is large because the place has an amazing natural beauty. Neighbouring village Caçela Velha offers two excellent restaurants for lunch or dinner.
Manta Rota
Manta Rota beach is the place where the Ria Formosa Natural Park ends. Here you can park your car straight at the long and wide white sandy beach. The sea is generally calm here and the sea bottom does not run down steep and the beach offers several water sports, among which water scooter rides. For smaller children that is ideal. Manta Rota offers an excellent restaurant: Restaurante Cha com Água Salgada for a great lunch or dinner.
